Meghalaya CM congratulates Prof. David Syiemlieh for Padma Shri award

Shillong, Apr 28 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday congratulated former Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman and renowned historian, Prof. David Reid Syiemlieh on being awarded with Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards of the country.
Prof. Syiemlieh was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu at a glittering ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, on Monday for his outstanding contributions to Literature and Education.
“He (Prof. Syiemlieh) is celebrated for his discovery of the date of martyrdom of Meghalaya’s freedom fighter U Tirot Sing, and for his profound research on the impact of colonial rule in Northeast India. His work continues to illuminate the rich history of Meghalaya and the region. A well-deserved honour for a lifetime of dedication to knowledge and heritage!” Chief Minister Sangma wrote on X.

Agartala, May 6 (UNI) A rubber planter died and two others were injured after being struck by lightning in Tripura's Unakoti district on Tuesday,
The deceased has been identified as Gautam Roy (29) a resident of Radha Gobindapur village under Laljuri gram panchayat. The injured were Nepal Gope (42) and Tapan Shil (42), are undergoing treatment at Unakoti District Hospital.
