Two suspected JMB terrorists arrested from Bengal

Kolkata, May 10 (UNI) In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police on Friday arrested two individuals suspected of being part of the banned terrorist outfit Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The arrests took place during simultaneous raids conducted in the early hours of May 9 at Nalhati and Murarai in the Birbhum district. The accused have been identified as Ajmol Hossain (28) of Nalhati and Saheb Ali Khan (28) of Murarai.

According to STF officials, both individuals are believed to be key members of a radical module responsible for disseminating seditious and jihadi propaganda through encrypted and sophisticated digital channels.

The module was allegedly engaged in radicalising Muslim youths, recruiting them into terror organisations, and inciting them to wage war against the Indian government.

Sources in STF claimed that amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan driven by religious separatism, the arrest of these two JMB activists is highly significant.

“The two have been found to be propagating the ideology of Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh or JMB, which is a banned terror organisation in India. We are trying to find out whether they were a part of a broader terrorist network,” an STF officer said.

An official statement revealed that the accused were also planning targeted attacks that could pose serious threats to the sovereignty and integrity of India. The STF further alleged that the two had attempted to procure firearms and were in the process of preparing explosives to propagate their extremist ideology, which included the concept of ‘Ghazwatul Hind’ — a jihadist vision aimed at waging war on Indian soil.

Police sources stated that “Hossain had previously attempted to cross into Bangladesh in connection with extremist activities and is suspected to have links across the Indian subcontinent. We are trying to find out whether there is a broader network at play.”

Following their arrest, both Hossain and Khan were produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) in Rampurhat. However, due to late court proceedings, the duo was sent to one-day judicial custody. A hearing on the STF’s plea for 14-day police remand is scheduled for Saturday. UNI XC SSP
