Arunachal Police arrests key accused in National Postal Savings scam

Itanagar, Mar 19 (UNI) In a significant breakthrough, the Seijosa Police in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday arrested one Umesh Hazarika from Noapama village for allegedly orchestrating a large-scale fraudulent National Postal Savings Scheme scam in collaboration with his father, Ghono Kanta Hazarika, who was arrested earlier in the same case.
Pakke Kessang SP Tasi Darang said, the arrest was made following an FIR filed by a complainant, Nyaken Nomdir of Namorah village, Pakke Kessang, leading to the registration of a case under Sections 316(4)/318(4)/115(2)/351(2) of the BNS on August 14, 2024 at Seijosa Police Station.
Darang said that the scam, run by the father-son duo, defrauded numerous individuals by falsely promising lucrative investment returns on the National Savings Scheme. In the process, instead of depositing the collected funds at the Sub Post Office in Mejecajan, Assam, they misappropriated approximately Rs 20 lakh from innocent investors.
After the FIR was lodged, Umesh absconded to Bengaluru, Karnataka. However, following weeks of meticulous investigation, Seijosa Police, in collaboration with Assam's Gingia Police, successfully arrested him.
The police team, led by SI Sang Thinley (OC, Seijosa PS), SI Duyu Talley, and constables N Ete, and Faith Wangsa, carried out multiple raids and utilized technical and human intelligence to track down the accused. The operation was conducted under the supervision of SP Pakke Kessang and DySP Sashi Dore (SDPO Seijosa).
The SP stated that the modus operandi of the accused involved was deceiving victims with fake investment schemes, pocketing their hard-earned money, and never depositing it into the official postal system.
With the arrest of the absconding accused, Seijosa Police has successfully dismantled the fraudulent practice, ensuring 'justice' for the victims.
