Odisha:17 fishermen held on charges of catching fish inside no fishing zone

Kendrapara, Apr 8 (UNI) At least 17 fishermen were apprehended by the Forest personnel of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary on Tuesday on the charges of catching fish unauthorisedly inside the “No Fishing Zone “ of Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary.
Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary Ranger Kapilendra Pradhan said the Forest personnel have intercepted a trawler, arrested the fishermen, and seized 3 VHF sets, two Gill nets, along with 18 quintals of miscellaneous marine fish catch from the possession of the arrested fishermen.
All the arrested fishermen were booked under Sections 27,29,31 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act,1972, and punishable under Section 51 of the said Act.
