Tripura court sends 8 anti-Waqf Act protesters to 10 days' jail

Agartala, Apr 13 (UNI) A local court in Kailashahar under Tripura’s Unokoti district on Sunday sent eight accused to 10 days of judicial custody for triggering violence and perpetrating an attack on police at Kubjhar village on Saturday during an anti-Waqf Amendment Act protest.
Unokoti, SP P Sudambika R, said that police had registered a specific case after the incident and launched an investigation. The search operation has been going on against a few others who were allegedly found to be involved in the incident. However, additional forces have been deployed in the entire area to prevent any further escalation.
According to the report, at least 18 policemen, including a Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) and a couple of inspectors, were injured in the violent attack by the protesters, while around 60 protesters were injured and a few of them hospitalized. A protester identified as Jahangir (51) has been undergoing treatment in the district hospital and is stated to be critical.
