Massive fire guts 63 stalls at mini market in Aizawl

Aizawl, Mar 17 (UNI) A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of Monday at Treasury Bazar, near the Mizoram Legislative Assembly, reducing 63 makeshift hawkers' stalls to ashes.
The blaze, which started at around 3 AM, engulfed shops selling vegetables, meat, agricultural tools, cosmetics, and tea, causing heavy losses to vendors.
The inferno also severely damaged a building opposite the Assembly, which housed a bakery, offices of the Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA), Zo Reunification Organisation (ZORO), and a restaurant.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, but Aizawl district SP Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng ruled out foul play for now.
The fire also impacted the state Assembly session, as it damaged a power transformer supplying electricity to the Assembly complex. When legislators gathered for the session before 10:30 AM, the power suddenly went out, plunging the hall into darkness.
The session, scheduled to begin at 10:30 AM, was delayed by over half an hour. Although power was restored, it took longer to get the ‘NeVA’ (paperless assembly) system functioning.
Aizawl Mayor Lalrinenga Sailo, who visited the fire-ravaged market, announced that the affected hawkers would not be allowed to rebuild their stalls at the same location and would be relocated to the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) complex. He also said vendors occupying pedestrian pavements on Saturdays would be shifted to the same facility.
