Bengal CM Mamata directs Police to heighten vigilance in border districts to prevent infiltration

Siliguri, May 21 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday directed senior police officials and all ranks in the border districts to further heighten vigilance to deter attempts to sneak in by any terrorist and any anti-national element.

Presiding over a meeting at Uttarkanya, the Chief Minister stressed the need for increasing patrolling of the forces, given the recent incident at Pahalgam, and urged the common people to be alert against any unwanted elements who may disrupt the peace.

She reminded everyone to remain vigilant for cross-border threats in the strategically sensitive region. Banerjee said the region, which shares international borders with Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, is "highly sensitive", and directed the law-enforcing agencies to intensify patrolling to prevent any infiltration bid, especially of anti-national elements.

She said "Even though the BSF is deployed, state administrative officials must also remain vigilant," the Chief Minister stressed." I will say that make sure no terror module is allowed to enter into the state. There are many elements come take down details of the people from AADHAAR Card and other documents," the CM said.

She said the state police had already arrested several such elements from Kolkata, Jhargram, Malda and Cooch Behar. Banerjee warned officials against the spread of misinformation and fake news.
