NTPC security up in wake of border tension

Bhagalpur, May 9 (UNI) Following instructions of the Union Home Ministry, the security has been beefed up at six power plants of the country's largest power generating company NTPC Ltd, located in Bihar and West Bengal amid escalating Indo-Pak tension and war-like situation between the two countries.
Official sources said here on Friday that complying with the centre's directives, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed for the security of NTPC's Kahalgaon, Barh, Navinagar, Kanti and Barauni power plants in Bihar and Farakka power plants in West Bengal has been put on high alert. Round the clock patrolling and search operations were being carried out by the troops in all plant premises.
Sources said that suspicious people and objects were being kept under strict surveillance at all sensitive places of power plants. Along with this, the duty of security personnel has been increased at the main workplace, CHP, boiler area, switch yard, turbine area.
The activities of workers from other states working in sensitive areas were being monitored. Apart from this, soldiers in civil dress have been deployed in different areas.
Sources said that strict vigil was being maintained at all the main gates of the power plants and sensitive areas through CCTV cameras and also by manually checking the people and vehicles visiting the power plants.
Round-the-clock patrolling was also being done with the help of local police in the sensitive areas of villages around the plants. Private security guards posted in the residential complexes of the plants have been alerted.
Sources said that due to the close proximity of Bihar and West Bengal with Nepal and Bangladesh, six power plants of NTPC have been considered highly sensitive from the strategic point of view. Under the prevailing situation, the Central Industrial Security Force has been asked to be extra vigilant.
