KIIT expresses deepest condolences on the suicide of Nepali girl student

Bhubaneswar, May 2 (UNI) The KIIT authorities on Friday expressed their deepest condolences over the suicide of a student on campus.
In an official statement, the University Registrar said the KIIT administration is deeply saddened and distressed by the unfortunate incident involving the suicide of a student on the premises.
“It is with a heavy heart that we express our deepest condolences on the tragic and untimely death of one of our students from Nepal, a young girl pursuing her first year in B.Tech Computer Science,” the Registrar stated.
He said upon discovering the incident, hostel authorities promptly informed the police.
The police arrived at the scene, and the student’s body was recovered in their presence. She was immediately taken to KIMS Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The body was subsequently transferred to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, for further procedures.
The Registrar added that upon receiving the news, senior police officials reached the site and, along with a scientific team, carried out the preliminary investigation.
The University administration informed the student’s family immediately and is fully cooperating with the police in their investigation.
“We mourn this irreparable loss and stand in solidarity with her family, friends, and the entire Nepali student community during this extremely difficult time,” the statement added.
The Nepali girl student, identified as Prisha Saha, was found dead in her hostel room on Thursday night during a routine attendance check by KIIT authorities.
Meanwhile, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated that the investigation into the student’s death has already commenced, and action will be taken following the preliminary findings.
The Odisha Government had earlier instituted a high-powered committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu to investigate the death of Prakriti Lamsal, a 20-year-old third-year B.Tech Computer Science student from Nepal, who was found dead in her hostel room on February 16last.
