Armed security deployed at Puri Sri Jagannath Temple: SP

Puri, May 9 (UNI) In light of the ongoing conflict with Pakistan, armed police have been deployed to provide round-the-clock security at the Sri Jagannath Temple in Puri.
Puri Superintendent of Police, Vinit Agarwal, informed the media on Friday that armed personnel are patrolling the Parikrama (circumambulatory path) area. Devotees are being frisked and required to pass through metal detector gates before entering the temple premises.
He stated that contingency arrangements are in place and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) have been placed on high alert. Police are closely monitoring incoming crowds at all entry points to the town.
Police teams have also conducted checks at hotels, lodges, and other accommodations to identify any suspicious individuals.
Community interaction initiatives have been activated to gather intelligence on potentially suspicious activities, the SP added.
Security personnel are screening devotees and visitors arriving by train and bus. Armed patrols have been intensified along the coastline, and police are manning watchtowers to maintain constant surveillance.
Marine police stations are conducting regular patrols along the district’s beach line, and this comprehensive security exercise is set to continue, the SP noted.
Additionally, reports confirm that security has been tightened at other key locations in the district, including the world-famous Sun Temple at Konark, the lighthouses at Chandrabhaga and Puri, and other critical installations.
