Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Iterating the BJP-led Assam government’s stern stand on Bangladeshi citizens entering or living in India illegally, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government has pushed back almost 330 such unauthorised foreigners, and none of them has returned.
“It is not possible for them to return, and we are firm on this. And this pushback will be intensified, it will be expedited. The way illegal immigrants have entered the state from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have to be more proactive to keep the state safe," said Sarma.
The Chief Minister was replying to a demand by opposition members, including Congress' Debabrata Saikia and AIUDF's Ashraful Hussain to discuss on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
