Assam can act as hub for Act East Policy: EAM Jaishankar in Guwahati

Guwahati/New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the Advantage Assam Summit 2.0 in Guwahati today, during which he highlighted the Modi Government’s commitment to the ‘Act East’ policy, and added that Assam can act as a hub for connectivity to Southeast Asia.
In a post on X, the EAM said he addressed the summit alongside Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, and ambassadors and delegates.
“Pleased to address Advantage Assam Summit 2.0 in Guwahati alongside CM @himantabiswa, Ambassadors and delegates.
“Spoke about Modi Government’s commitment to ‘Act East, Act Fast and Act First’.
Highlighted:
*Act East starts with a change of approach by Delhi towards Assam and Northeastern States that has happened since 2014 under Modi Government.
*It is supported by Purvodaya Scheme to bring new energy and resources to infrastructure, employment, skilling and development.
*Neighborhood First policy has transformed infrastructure and connectivity across our eastern borders. Wholehearted commitment to bilateral and regional cooperation can take it further.
*ASEAN is a partner of enormous consequence. AITIGA (ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement) review, mobility arrangements and new tech domains offer great possibilities.
*IMTT (India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral) highway can be a real game changer. Every effort should be made to advance it.
*BIMSTEC is receiving heightened attention. We intend to commit more energies and resources.
*Giving our collaboration with Japan and South Korea a more contemporary character is important. The partnership with Australia also merits a particular mention.
*Assam can act as a hub for our Act East policy. Brand Assam grows stronger by the day."
EAM Jaishankar and Assam CM led a high-powered session titled “Act East, Act Fast, Act First” at Advantage Assam 2.0 in Guwahati on Tuesday, placing Assam at the heart of India’s Act East Policy.
Among those participating were Simon Wong, Singapore High Commissioner; Hervé Delphin, EU Ambassador to India; Major General Vetsop Namgyel, Bhutan’s Ambassador; Keiichi Ono, Japan’s Ambassador; Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita; Assam’s Act East Policy Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, and leading trade experts.
