Fiji's Health Minister Lalabalav calls on EAM Jaishankar

New Delhi, Apr 7 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday met with visiting Fijian Health Minister Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalav and discussed the ongoing bilateral health and medical cooperation.
In a post, the EAM said:
“Pleased to meet @MOHFiji Minister Dr. Ratu Atonio Rabici Lalabalavu this morning.
“Discussed our ongoing health and medical cooperation, an important pillar of our long-standing partnership.”
The visit of the Fijian Health Minister comes as Fiji has reported a shortage of IV fluids to treat dengue patients.
The Fijian Health Ministry said it is responding to concerns raised about current global shortage of IV fluids which is expected to continue through 2025 amid supply constraints.
It said that intravenous fluids are not out of stock in the country.
The Fiji Pharmaceutical & Biomedical Services had received 3,000 units of saline solution last week and another 4,200 units is yet to be cleared by the Fiji Procurement Office.
The Ministry said it is optimistic that the current supply of IV fluids is sufficient to meet the surge in dengue fever cases.
Fiji has reported 2,841 laboratory-confirmed cases of Dengue Fever in the West, while the Central Division recorded 1,090 cases with numbers rising, and the Northern Division recorded 1,095 cases, while the Eastern Division recorded 102 laboratory-confirmed cases.
Leptospirosis cases from the January to March this year stand at 818 cases nationally, Fijian reports said.
