Judgeship is not a career, demands fairness & integrity: Delhi HC Judge Bhambhani

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) “Judgeship is not just a career. It is a responsibility that demands impartiality, fairness, and integrity," Delhi High Court Judge Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani has said.
Making these significant comments at a programme here, the senior judicial luminary said, "A judge should have no past and no future. There should be no past that people can fault.”
Justice Bhambhani was speaking at the 5th Justice J S Verma Memorial ADR & Client Counselling Competition & NAVITAS – Law Fest 2025, according to a press statement issued by the organisers.
He also highlighted the challenges of litigation, calling it a necessary evil that often does not lead to a peaceful resolution of disputes.
On the occasion, Justice Bhambhani shared his personal experience of working with former Chief Justice of India Late Justice J. S. Verma and said he imbibed immense knowledge and values from him.
At the same time, he expressed regret at meeting Justice Verma late in his career.
Chief guest of the event, Supreme Court Judge Justice Rajesh Bindal shed light on pre-litigation applications in matrimonial cases and their 30-40% success rate in resolving disputes before reaching the courts, the press statement said.
He emphasized that litigation is not the ultimate solution to all legal problems and stressing the need for more focus on ADR mechanisms, according to the statement.
"Winning and losing is secondary. What truly matters is participation, learning, and performance. Competitions like these prepare you for the real challenges in the legal world,” he said.
At the event, founder Chairman Dr. Nand Kishore Garg inspired students by sharing the life and sacrifices of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, emphasizing the importance of courage, conviction, and moral integrity in both personal and professional life.
"Character is the foundation of success. As legal professionals, your strength lies not just in knowledge but in the values and ethics that guide your practice,” he said.
During the course of NAVITAS 5.0, students participated in various competitions, including Moot Court, ADR & Client Counselling, Debating, and Legal Quiz, showcasing their legal acumen and advocacy skills.
