SC dismisses PIL on tourists safety after Pahalgam terror attack

New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an advocate seeking enhanced safety measures for tourists visiting hilly and remote regions of the country, following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives.
A Bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N. Kotiswar Singh expressed strong reservations about the petition’s intent. “What is your purpose? What is your motive? Who is inciting you to file this kind of PILs?” the Bench asked sharply.
The advocate, appearing in person, replied that the plea was filed solely in the public interest for the safety of tourists. However, Justice Kant responded critically, “You don’t understand any sensitivity? You don’t realise your responsibility? You want to become the second member of this Bar known for these kinds of PILs?”
