Port Louis/New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to be conferred with Mauritius’ highest civilian honour, the Grand Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK).
This was announced by Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam during the Community Reception held for Prime Minister Modi at the Trianon Convention Centre.
The Mauritius PM announced that he has recommended to President Dharmbeer Gokhool to award PM Narendra Modi the distinction of Grand Commander of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK), the highest distinction of the Mauritian’ State.
Only five foreign personalities, including Nelson Mandela, have received this recognition so far, he added.
During the community reception, PM Modi presented the Mauritius PM Navin Ramgoolam and his wife Veena Ramgoolam the Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cards.
PM Modi said in his remarks that "the people and the government of Mauritius have decided to confer upon me their highest civilian honour".
“I humbly accept this decision with great respect.
“This is not just an honour for me, it is an honour for the historic bond between India and Mauritius.“
