Russia calls for dialogue, diplomacy to resolve India-Pakistan tensions

New Delhi, May 3 (UNI) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Friday, during which they discussed the rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Lavrov urged for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the tensions.
The two foreign ministers “discussed topical issues of the Russian-Indian cooperation, as well as the aggravation of Indian-Pakistani relations following the terrorist attack near Pahalgam," according to a statement by the Russian Embassy.
“Sergey Lavrov called for the settlement of disagreements between New Delhi and Islamabad by political and diplomatic means on a bilateral basis in accordance with the provisions of the Simla Agreement of 1972 and the Lahore Declaration of 1999.
“The Ministers also discussed the schedule of upcoming contacts at the highest and high levels,” he said, in reference to the expected India visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin for the annual summit-level bilateral talks.
EAM Jaishankar in a post on X, said that he conveyed to the Russian FM that the perpetrators, backers and planners of the Pahalgam terror attack must be brought to justice.
"Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack with FM Lavrov of Russia yesterday. Its perpetrators, backers and planners must be brought to justice.
"Also spoke about our bilateral cooperation activities."
