Iranian FM Araghchi to visit Delhi to hold talks with EAM, first FM visit post Op Sindoor

New Delhi, May 7 (UNI) Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi arrives in New Delhi tonight on a two-day visit, becoming the first top foreign official to visit India in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor.

Araghchi arrives in India late tonight, and tomorrow he is to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at noon. He will also call on President Droupadi Murmu, before departing.

The Iranian Foreign Minister is the first foreign minister, especially from the Middle East, to visit Delhi after India's Operation Sindoor, in which India conducted cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and POK.

The visit of the Iranian FM comes as Iran has expressed deep concern over the rising military tensions between India and Pakistan and called on both sides to show restraint and avoid further escalation.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmail Baghaei voiced serious concern over the intensifying conflict between India and Pakistan, urging both nations to exercise restraint.

He reiterated Iran’s “principled stance on respecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejecting the use of force”, Mehr quoted him as saying.

Baghaei stated that the growing tensions and clashes between two major nations, both of which share long-standing ties of friendship with Iran, are a matter of serious concern.

He expressed hope that both parties would take steps toward de-escalation and prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

The spokesman also “warned against possible exploitation of the crisis by third parties, particularly the Israeli regime”.
