United Nations/New Delhi, May 8 (UNI) UN General Assembly President Philemon Yang has voiced concern over the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan and urged both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation.

In a statement, Philemon Yang also called for dialogue and diplomacy “in line with the UN Charter and international laws” to resolve the matter.

His statement read:

“I am deeply concerned about the escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan.

“I call for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and for an immediate de-escalation.

“I reiterate my condemnation of all terrorist attacks and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure.

“I firmly believe that dialogue and diplomatic solutions in line with the UN Charter and international law are the only ways to resolve differences and achieve lasting peace and stability.”

The statement comes amid mounting escalation between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor launched by India – cross-border strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.
