Jammu, Mar 5 (UNI) Amidst uproar in the House, the BJP legislators on Wednesday staged walkout when the Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather expunged the “derogatory remarks” of Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma used for those killed on July 13, 1931.
BJP LoP Sunil Sharma objected to the speech of PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para in the House, when he demanded restoration of public holiday on July 13 (Martyrs Day) and December 5 (birth anniversary of NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah).
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather announced expunging of the “derogatory remarks” when the House witnessed noisy scenes for Sunil Sharma’s remarks on 1931 martyrs’.
The members from the CPI (M), Congress and PDP also demanded an apology from the BJP MLA.
All 28 BJP MLAs, however, later walked out of the House.
The Lieutenant Governor headed administration scrapped these holidays from the calendar after the Article 370 abrogation that led to the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.
