Dalit youth dies in police custody, three suspended

Azamgarh (UP), Mar 31 (UNI) A Dalit youth died in police custody under mysterious circumstances after which his family went on rampage and damaged vehicles in Tarwa area of Azamgarh district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, police sources said here.
Police sources said that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hemraj Meena has suspended the station in-charge, a sub-inspector and a constable after prima facie investigation in this case. "District Magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the entire incident," they said.
The SSP said that Sunny Kumar, a resident of Umri Patti village, was accused of making indecent remarks on a teenager. "The family of the teenager lodged a complaint in the Tarwa police station. In the complaint letter, the family alleged that on March 28, in the afternoon, the teenager was passing by, when Sunny Kumar played obscene songs on his mobile at high volume and made inappropriate gestures," he said.
