Woman shot dead by miscreant in Azamgarh

Azamgarh (UP), May 16 (UNI) A 56-year-old woman was shot dead when she went to mediate between two groups during an altercation allegedly over a petty issue in Atraulia area of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, a police officer said here.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Chirag Jain said that the incident took place in Naupur village under Atraulia police station area, where the car of Sanju, who had come to his in-laws' house, collided with someone, which led to an altercation.

"Hearing the noise, Sanju's mother-in-law, Rama Devi came to mediate and was shot dead by miscreants. Prima facie, the police have found the dispute to be a car collision," he said.

He said that the deceased's son Krishna, said that his brother-in-law Sanju, was coming from the market when his car collided. He said that on getting information about the matter, his mother went there.
