Srinagar, Apr 8 (UNI) In a major crackdown on drug peddling, police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district seized 1.216 kg of brown sugar and arrested an alleged drug peddler during routine patrolling.
Police said the drugs were recovered during routine patrolling and naka checking in the Boniyar area of the district.
Police said during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, a police party deployed at Bernate Bala, Boniyar intercepted a suspicious individual attempting to flee from the spot.
“The person was tactfully apprehended and upon preliminary questioning, disclosed his identity as Manzoor Ahmad Mir, of Bernate, Boniyar. Upon his search, the police recovered 1 kg and 216 grams of contraband substance, believed to be Brown Sugar and digital weighing machine,” a police statement on Tuesday said.
The recovered substance and was seized on the spot as per the legal procedures laid down under the NDPS Act.
In this regard, a case under section 8/21 NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Boniyar, and the accused has been taken into custody.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the illegal narcotics network and to trace the source of the contraband.
