Educational institutions reopen in J&K's Udhampur, parts of Kathua

Jammu, May 14 (UNI) As life limps back to normalcy, all educational institutions reopened on Wednesday in non-border areas, including Udhampur and parts of Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials here said that schools and colleges reopened nearly one week after they were closed in view of the tension between India and Pakistan along the Line of Control and the International Border.

“As the situation is normal, the schools and colleges in the non-border areas have reopened this morning,” said an official. Educational institutions have reopened in the entire Udhampur district but in parts of Kathua district that do not share borders.

Many parts of Kathua are located along the International Border.

“So far, the overall situation is peaceful but as a preventive measure, educational institutions are still closed in the border belts, the decision on which will be taken soon,” he added.

“All government and private schools in Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch and Samba district will remain closed but in district Udhampur, Bani, Basholi, Mahanpur, Bhaddu, Malhar and Billawar zones of district Kathua are reopened,” he added.

“Educational institutions in the border areas will remain shut as a precautionary measure. Schools and colleges in non-border areas of Jammu and Kashmir reopened on Wednesday, in early signs of a return to normal life after being closed for many days due to heightened tensions between India and Pakistan,” he added.

Meanwhile life has returned to normalcy in the markets of Jammu city as well.
