HCBA postpones strike, to boycott Justice Verma's oath ceremony

HCBA postpones strike, to boycott Justice Verma's oath ceremony

Prayagraj, Mar 29 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA), which was on an indefinite strike over the transfer of a Delhi High Court judge Justice Yashwant Verma, to the Allahabad High Court, postponed its agitation on Saturday, an HCBA office-bearer said here.
HCBA President Anil Tiwari said that in a meeting of the office bearers on Saturday, it was decided to postpone the strike. The lawyers will resume work from Tuesday.
He said that the Bar Association has taken this decision given the problems being faced by the litigants. He said that the further strategy will be decided after the report of the committee constituted by the Supreme Court comes.
Tiwari said that the lawyers will boycott the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Yashwant Verma of the Delhi High Court in the Allahabad HC.
It may be noted that recently the SC Collegium had recommended sending Justice Yashwant Verma of the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad HC due to the allegation of finding a huge amount of cash after the fire incident in his residence. After that, the Bar Association announced an indefinite strike last Tuesday afternoon.
After the Law Ministry issued a notification of his transfer on Friday, now Justice Verma will come to the Allahabad HC anytime and take oath, which the SCBA will oppose.
The HCBA President described the issuance of the transfer notification of Justice Yashwant Verma on Friday as the 'darkest day for the judiciary of India'. He announced that the HCBA would boycott the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Verma.
