Punjab CPI welcomes ceasefire, demands clarification on 'intel failure' regarding Pahalgam

Chandigarh, May 14 (UNI) While welcoming the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the Punjab unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Wednesday demanded a clarification from the Indian government on whether the Pahalgam terror attack, like Pulwama, "was again a failure of intelligence agencies or whether the government itself bears responsibility".
The party also questioned the meaning of the ceasefire agreement signed "under American pressure" and asked when the terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack will be caught
The CPI said that the India-Pakistan ceasefire, declared before a full-scale war could erupt, has allowed the people of the country, especially in Punjab, to breathe a sigh of relief.
CPI stated that a war between two nuclear-armed nations could lead to complete devastation.
The CPI also strongly praised India’s minority Muslim community for standing in solidarity during a difficult time, supporting every step taken by the Indian Army against terrorism and Pakistan.
"In particular, the people and government of Jammu and Kashmir expressed strong protest against terrorism and Pakistan by observing a complete shutdown in response to the killing of 26 innocent civilians by terrorists in Pahalgam," the statement said.
It further said that on the other hand, many leaders in power continued to spread communal poison and followed their divisive agendas even during this difficult time.
CPI Secretary Bant Singh Brar stated that the "CPI demands clarification from the Indian government regarding the Pahalgam incident—whether, like Pulwama, it was again a failure of intelligence agencies or whether the government itself bears responsibility".
"It is now clear that two days ago in Jammu and Kashmir, after intelligence warnings, the Prime Minister cancelled his visit, but the government made no arrangements for the safety of ordinary tourists," he claimed.
The CPI alleged that the Modi government has been unsuccessful in preventing terrorist incidents like Pahalgam and many others, just as it failed in Pulwama.
The party also questioned the meaning of the agreement signed under American pressure and asked when the terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam incident will be caught—or whether they, like the Pulwama attackers who remain free, will never be brought to justice.
The CPI further demanded immediate financial assistance and jobs for the families of martyrs. It also urged the central government to provide Punjab—a state drowning in economic crisis and burdened by nearly four lakh crore in debt by year-end—with a special relief package like other states. The CPI also appealed for special concessions for border residents, who constantly face many challenges.
Finally, the CPI called on all peace- and democracy- loving forces in Punjab and across the country to remain vigilant and unite against divisive and communal elements.
