Jammu, Apr 16 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday claimed to have recovered a haul of arms and ammunition from the site of the Kathua encounter that started on March 24.
“In the last one month, four gunfights took place between security forces and the terrorists in Kathua district, and the recovery of arms, ammunition and other war-like stores besides narcotics from the Rajbagh encounter has made clear that the terrorists had major planning,” Shobhit Saxena told reporters at a press conference in Kathua on Wednesday.
Notably, two terrorists were killed in the encounter while four Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel also attained martyrdom.
“The terrorists are on the run, but we are after them, and they will soon be neutralised,” he added.
According to SSP Kathua, a tight security grid has been put in place in the entire district since the encounter, and the terrorists will not be allowed to escape.
“The group of four to five terrorists had recently infiltrated from across the border and entered into the Indian territory,” he added and said, “two terrorists have been eliminated, and the remaining will also very soon meet the same fate.”
The traditional routes through which the terrorists had entered Jammu have been exposed, and the SSP said, “We will never allow them (terrorists) to sneak into Indian territory through these traditional routes again.”
During the encounters in Kathua, security forces have recovered a huge amount of arms and ammunition, he added.
“The recovered items include two AK-47 rifles and one M4 rifle. Apart from this, a large number of magazines and rounds have also been recovered along with explosives and medical kits from the terrorists killed in the anti-terrorist operation,” he said.
The SSP said that items recovered from the terrorists cleared that they had come with a major plan, adding, “The terrorists are now moving in the forest areas without any logistic support and weapons.”
The SSP also claimed that a consignment of drugs, including heroin, was also recovered, which is believed to be for their personal use.
“The recovery of huge explosives shows that the terrorists might be planning to carry out major attacks,” he added and said that the security forces have successfully foiled all their nefarious designs and the arms and ammunition recovered are in the possession of the police.
