J&K Police conduct raids in Srinagar, Pulwama in ongoing crackdown on separatists

Srinagar, Apr 19 (UNI) As part of its ongoing crackdown on separatist elements, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday conducted searches in Srinagar and Pulwama districts in connection with a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) linked to banned organisations.
.
The searches were conducted at the houses belonging to members of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat members Bashir Ahmed Bhat alias Peer Saifullaha and Mohammad Ashraf Laya. Tehreek-e-Hurriyat was co-founded by late Syed Ali Geelani.

Police said the searches were conducted as part of the efforts to dismantle the remnants of the secessionist and terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar Police carried out search in a case registered in 2024 under the UAPA pertaining to banned organizations after obtaining search warrant from the National Investigation Agency Court Srinagar.
The searches, conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, were part of an investigation under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA registered at Police Station Rajbagh. They were carried out at the residences of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat members Peer Saifullah of Zadoora, Pulwama—currently lodged in Tihar Jail and residing at Rawalpora—and Mohammad Ashraf Laya, originally from Jamia, Baramulla, and presently residing in Old Barzulla.

“During the search, incriminating materials including books, letter heads, pamphlets and letters related to the investigation of instant case have been recovered from the house of Saifullah and they have accordingly been seized in the presence of the Magistrate and independent witness as per proper legal procedures,” police said, adding the investigation of the case is going on.

The searches were conducted a time when 11 separatists organizations have cut ties with Hurriyat Conference over the last few weeks. The latest to disassociate from the Hurriyat Conference included Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League and Kashmir Freedom Front.
