NQAS certification raises public trust in govt hospitals in UP

Lucknow, Apr 29 (UNI) The certification of health facilities under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) has significantly strengthened public confidence in government hospitals across Uttar Pradesh, official sources said here on Tuesday.
Sources said that the growing number of patients in OPDs, the rise in surgical procedures and the increasing volume of diagnostic tests, from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to District Hospitals, stand as testimony to the improved healthcare services in the state. "Due to the Yogi government's farsighted policies, 1,059 health units in UP have received NQAS certification so far," they said.
Sources said that for instance, the Sarojini Nagar Community Health Centre (CHC) in Lucknow where in 2022, fewer than 100 patients visited the OPD daily. "Following its NQAS certification, the number has surged to 250 to 300 patients daily. The centre now houses a range of specialists, including a physician, gynaecologist, paediatrician, dental surgeon and anesthesiologist. Enhanced cleanliness and upgraded facilities have made the CHC a preferred destination for patients from nearby areas such as Darogakheda, Banthra, Mohanlalganj and Uttaretia," they said.
Block Programme Manager Swaraj Mohan said that the proximity of the Sarojini Nagar Primary Health Center (PHC), located adjacent to the CHC, has further boosted community confidence.
CHC in-charge Dr Chandan Yadav said that doctors from multiple disciplines also attend to patients at the PHC, contributing to a daily combined footfall of 400 to 500 patients. "The hospital's image, number of OPD consultations, admissions and deliveries have all improved post-certification," he said.
Sources said that following Bakshi Ka Talab, Sarojini Nagar CHC became the next in the district to receive the NQAS certification. "The centre had already earned the 'Lakshya' and 'Kayakalp' honours. The hospital handles around 140 to 150 deliveries monthly, conducts 400 X-rays and performs ultrasounds for 100 patients through the e-voucher system. It is also equipped with a blood storage unit for emergency cases," they said.
Sources said that seven Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under Sarojini Nagar CHC have also achieved NQAS certification. "The facility offers Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), a Newborn Stabilisation Unit (NBSU), online lab reports, tele-medicine services and over 200 essential medicines free of cost," they said.
Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) Dr Pinky Jowel said that the state's goal is to have 50 percent of health facilities NQAS-certified by the end of the year.
"Preparations are being accelerated across all districts to meet this target," she said.
NHM General Manager Dr Shahzad Ahmed said facilities, from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to PHCs and CHCs are being upgraded in accordance with NQAS standards.
