Illegal slaughterhouses, sale of meat near religious places banned in UP

Lucknow, Mar 29 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has issued a strict order to close illegal slaughterhouses and ban the sale of meat within 500 meters of religious places with special restrictions on the Ram Navami on April 6, a government spokesman said here on Saturday.
Principal Secretary of Urban Development Department Amrit Abhijat has directed all District Magistrates, Police Commissioners, and Municipal Commissioners to immediately close the slaughterhouses and enforce the ban on meat sale near religious places.
The spokesman said that special restrictions will come into force on the day of Ram Navami on April 6, animal slaughter and sale of meat will be completely banned on this day. "Under the provisions of the UP Municipal Corporation Act 1959 and Food Safety Act 2006 and 2011, the UP government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to take strict punitive action against the violators," he said.
