Lucknow, April 16 (UNI) In a bid to empower working women, the Uttar Pradesh government has planned to construct modern hostels in Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad, official sources said here on Wednesday.
Sources said that spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the initiative seeks to provide safe, accessible, and affordable accommodation for women in the workforce.
"The project is a significant step toward ensuring women's safety and promoting self-reliance, marking a major stride in the state's ongoing efforts toward women empowerment," they said.
Sources said that under the 'Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI)' scheme, a total of eight hostels for working women have been approved in UP. "Each hostel will accommodate up to 500 women and will be constructed in Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad," they said.
Sources also said that a budget of Rs 381.56 crore has been allocated for the project. "Of this, the central government has already released the first instalment of Rs 251.8296 crore, which has been transferred to the Women Welfare Department by the State Finance Department," they said.
Sources said that a construction agency has been designated for the project and work is expected to commence soon. "Once completed, these hostels will significantly ease the housing challenges faced by working women across the state," they said.
