TN: Earthmover operator dies as portion of entrance arch falls on vehicle

Madurai (Tamil Nadu), Feb 13 (UNI) In a tragic incident, a 32-year-old earthmover operator was crushed to death after a portion of the entrance arch fell on the vehicle while demolishing it near the MGR bus stand at Mattuthavani in the city on Wednesday midnight.
Police said the Madurai city corporation authorities have engaged a private contractor, Nallathambi, to demolish the ‘Nakkeerar Thorana Vaayil’ (Nakkeerar entrance arch) based on the Madras High Court Madurai Bench order, as it was reportedly hindering vehicular movement.
The earth mover operator, Nagalingam, was attempting to demolish the huge arch when the tragedy occurred.
