Chennai, Feb 26 (UNI) Five people, including four members of a
family, were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided
with a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus near Kulithalai in
Karur district of the State on Wednesday early morning.
Police sources said the deceased included two women.
The family members along with their driver were on their way to a
temple at Orathanadu in Thanjavur district, when the accident occurred
on the Tiruchy-Karur National Highway.
The deceased were identified as Selvaraj, his wife, Kalayarasi, their
daughter Akalya, son Arun and car driver Vishnu.
The bus was heading towards Tiruppur from Aranthangi in Pudukottai
district when the accident occurred.
The impact of the collision was such that car was crushed under the
lower part of the bus, and was reduced to a mangled heap, killing all
the five, who were trapped in it, on the spot.
Police and fire service personnel struggled hard for more than one hour
to pull out the mangled car, retrieve the bodies from it, and shifted them
to the Government hospital for autopsy.
District Collector M.Thangavel, Superintendent of Police K. Feroz Khan
Abdullah and senior police officials visited the spot and conducted a
preliminary inquiry.
Police have registered a case and are investigating.
