AP: Dalits stage dharna demanding SC atrocity case on social boycott

Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), Apr 28 (UNI) Dalits under the banner of VIDASAM (vishrutha Dalit sanghams) have staged a dharna in front of the collectorate here on Monday demanding registering a case under SC atrocities act into the incident of social boycotting of Mallam village Dalits.
Vidasam state convenor Dr Busi Venkata Rao who led the dharna said that registering of SC atrocity case was the real solution for putting an end to the social evil like social boycotting.
He blamed the officials for the inaction even though the dalits in Mallam village of Pithapuram mandal were subjected to social boycott in a barbaric manner for three days from April 20.
Rao demanded the government to pay compensation to Pallapu Suresh, a dalit electrician who died while attending to electric work in the house of an upper caste and also a job to his wife.
Dr Venkata Rao further demanded registering of SC and ST atrocity case against the officials for supporting those responsible for imposing social boycotting of dalit families.
He regretted that the administration had tried to suppress the seriousness of the problem by forming a peace committee in the village.
Later they called on the Collector in a delegation comprising of joint convenor Revu Tirupati Rao, Jaji Onkar, Bula Bhaskara Rao, Gubbala Srinivas, Amaladas Rambabu and S. Nookaraju and presented a memorandum on their demands.
