SKM, trade unions call for nationwide strike on Jul 9

Hyderabad, July 3 (UNI) Leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and central trade unions have called for a nationwide strike on July 9 to protest the Modi government’s "anti-farmer, anti-labour and anti-people" policies.
Addressing a press conference at Basheerbagh Press Club, senior SKM leader and former MP Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao, along with other SKM Telangana leaders, alleged that the Centre is pushing agriculture into corporate control by ignoring demands for legal MSP, removing it from the National Agricultural Market Policy (NPFAM), and weakening price protection mechanisms.
The leaders warned against including agriculture in any Free Trade Agreement (FTA), especially with the US, saying it would harm Indian farmers by opening the market to heavily subsidized American farm products.
They condemned the Centre’s move to replace 44 existing labour laws with four labour codes, claiming it strips workers of hard-won rights.
The SKM urged farmers, workers, and the general public to participate in the July 9 all-India strike and protest, demanding the immediate withdrawal of NPFAM and the exclusion of agriculture from any trade agreements.
