Thoothukudi, Mar 6 (UNI) A special police team shot a history-sheeter, a key-accused in the brutal murder of a septuagenarian woman and her daughter in the leg, when he tried to escape by attacking a sub-inspector of police with a sickle at Vaippar River basin at Ayan Vadamalapuram in Thoothudi district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
Police said P.Seethalakshmi (70), a widow, who was separated from her husband, and her daughter V.Ramajayanthi (48), was found murdered on last Monday and their golden ornaments weighing 13 sovereigns were missing from the house at Melanambipuram near Ettayapuram in Thoothudi district.
The Ettayapuram police registered a murder-for-gain case and were probing the incident.
