TN: Anti-Terrorism Squad SSI commits suicide in Coimbatore

Coimbatore, Mar 13 (UNI) A Special Sub-Inspector (SSI), attached to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the Tamil Nadu Police Intelligence Wing, here allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a tree at VOC Park Ground in Coimbatore early on Thursday.
Police said the deceased, identified as M.Chokkalingam (54) was found hanging from the tree using his wife’s saree.
Investigations revealed that he attempted to commit suicide in his house, after finishing his routine duty on Wednesday night by locking the bedroom from inside.
Suspecting his unusual behavior, his wife pleaded with him not to take any drastic step, after which he reportedly changed his decision.
Later, he informed his wife that he is going out to relax and return home soon. Though he went out, last night, the SSI did not return.
Meanwhile, the passerby lodged a complaint with the police that a man was found hanging from the tree.
The Race Course police went to the spot and identified the deceased as Chokkalingam.
The body was sent to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
He was survived by his wife and two daughters, both of whom got married.
Senior police officials, including the ATS visited the site and held an inquiry.
The Race Course police have registered a case and a detailed probe is underway on different angles to ascertain the reason behind his extreme step.
