Mahamandaleswar Swami Anandavanam Bharathi arrives in Kerala

Kochi, Mar 18 (UNI) Swami Anandavanam Bharathi Maharaj, who was anointed as Mahamandaleswar at the Mahakumbh Mela on January 26, arrived in Kerala to attend a series of meetings organised by various cultural and spiritual organisations in the State.
The Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara, country’s largest monastic order, will be felicitated by various organisations including the head of many Ashrams in the presence of Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on March 21 at Levee Hall at 5 pm in Thiruvananthapuram.
The Mahamandaleshwar arrived at the Cochin International Airport on Tuesday morning and visited Kalady, the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya, and left for Thrissur. Anandavanam Bharathi will be received at a program at the Vadakkumnath temple at 5 pm on March 19. After that, he will leave for Thiruvananthapuram.
During the Mahakumb Mela, Juna Akhara head Swami Avdheshanand Giri had anointed him Mahamandaleshwar, the highest level of monks in the order.
About 50 years ago, three Malayalis, including Swami Kashikanandagiri Maharaj, attained the status of Mahamandalashwar of the Niranjani Akhara. After that, Swami Anandavanam Bharathi, a native of Thrissur, is the first Mahamandalashwar from Kerala to attain this prestigious position.
Adi Shankaracharya from Kerala is believed to have established the Akhara system in northern India to train warrior monks to protect Hinduism.
Hemant Mohan Bharathi Maharaj, Mahant Parameshwar Bharathi, Mahant Avantika Bharathi, Raveendrananda Bharati, Mahant Om Bharathi, are also visiting the State.
Sadhu Anandavanam Bharathi Maharaj, a native of Thrissur in Purvashrama, has been working as a part of Juna Akhara since 2007. After completing his postgraduate degree in political science and journalism with a gold medal from the Kerala Press Academy, he worked as a journalist in a leading Malayalam daily.
Swami Anandavanam Bharathi had made special arrangements for Keralites during the last Mahakumbh Mela. It is estimated that between 3.5 lakh and 5 lakh Malayalees attended the divine bath.
