BJP activists disrupt Cong rally, heckle Ktk CM Siddaramaiah

Belagavi, Apr 28 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s speech at a Congress-organised 'Save Constitution, Save Nation' rally here on Monday was briefly disrupted after a group of BJP women activists raised slogans against him and waved black flags.

The protesters shouted slogans in favour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and against Siddaramaiah, with one among them telling the Chief Minister to "go to Pakistan".

The disturbance diverted the attention from the stage to the protesters, causing a brief halt in proceedings.

Visibly disturbed, the Chief Minister stopped his address and summoned the police to the stage. "Who is the SP here? What is this trouble? Can you not contain it in time?" Siddaramaiah asked Additional Superintendent of Police (Dharwad) Narayan Baramani, who was posted near the dais.

The ASP attempted to explain, but the Chief Minister expressed dissatisfaction before raising his hand angrily at him.

The CM later resumed his speech after senior Ministers HK Patil, MB Patil and Congress General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala intervened and pacified him. Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar also received instructions from the Chief Minister.

Police personnel swiftly removed the BJP activists from the rally site.

The Congress rally, aimed at highlighting alleged failures of the Union Government, saw several senior leaders in attendance, even as tensions escalated following recent political statements linking the CM’s remarks on National Security to Pakistan.
