BJP, police face off over jail jammer in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 5 (UNI) Tensions simmered in the coastal city on Saturday as BJP workers, led by Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath, staged a protest against the installation of a communication jammer at the district jail, alleging that it has severely disrupted the daily lives of residents in the vicinity.
The protesters, who attempted to block the road and encircle the jail premises, were detained by police, even as the issue took on a political hue with the BJP accusing the Congress-led state government of administrative apathy.
"This is nothing but a failure of governance," Kamath told reporters at the protest site. "If the police were doing their job, this jammer wouldn’t even be necessary."
