Organs of accident victim save 8 lives in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 2 (UNI) In an extraordinary display of courage and compassion, the family of a 28-year-old road accident victim gave a fresh lease of life to eight individuals across the city by donating the deceased's organs to a private hospital.
The victim, who sustained a critical head injury and severe oral bleeding in a road accident, was rushed to the Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, in an unstable condition. A CT scan revealed a rapidly enlarging blood clot in the brain. Despite immediate medical intervention and intensive care, his condition continued to deteriorate, and he was declared brain dead by the designated Brain Death Certification Committee.
Following this, a multi-disciplinary team of doctors counselled the bereaved family regarding the option of organ donation. In the midst of their grief, the family displayed immense courage and agreed to donate the victim’s eyes, lungs, liver, heart valves, kidneys, and skin. The multi-organ retrieval procedure lasted approximately five hours.
