Chennai, Feb 25 (UNI) Senior BJP Leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Textile city of Coimbatore on a three-day visit to Tamil Nadu on Tuesday night.
He was received at the airport by Union Minister L Murugan, BJP State President K Annamalai and other leaders.
Mr Shah will inaugurate a new BJP party office on Wednesday morning and hold talks with the senior party leaders on the strategy to be adopted for the 2006 Assembly polls and to strengthen the party
in the Kongu belt comprising Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and neighbouring districts, where it has a good voter base.
After a brief rest, he would take part in the Mahasivarathri celebrations at Isha Yoga Centre by boarding a helicopter to Velliangiri foothills where it was located.
He would be received by Foundation Director Jaggi Vasudev.
After offering prayers at Dhyana Lingam and Aadiyogi statue, he would take part in the Mahasivarathri celebrations from 1800 hrs till 0600 hrs on Thursday morning, after which he would leave for New Delhi at around 0900 hrs.
Security has been tightened in view of Mr Amit Shah's visit to Coimbatore and senior police officials were deployed.
Reports received here said about 7,000 police personnel, including 3,000 in Coimbatore city and 4,000 in rural areas and on all the routes to be travelled by Mr Amit Shah, were deployed on security duty, besides at the star hotel where he would be staying and at the BJP office and Isha Yogi Centre.
Police have also intensified vehicle checks across the district police and they are monitoring round the clock.
