India Post to contact 30L households in India

Thiruvananthpuram, May 11 (UNI) About 30 lakh households in India will be directly contacted by representatives from the India Post to explain about services and schemes offered by the postal department for families, Union Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Chanda Sekhar Pemmasani has said.
Stating that Department of Posts is planning to conduct the largest survey in the entire country, he said the Central Government's attempt is to transform the India Post into a global logistic entity.
"Post offices are no longer about post cards and stamps, they have also developed into payment banks, savings banks and rural livelihood missions," he said.
"Entrepreneurs who wants to export their products, can do it seamlessly through Post offices now, even in rural villages."
Despite the decline faced by Department of Posts in the era of mobile phones, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has envisioned how to convert post offices into income generating centres. Just like any other private organisation, India Post has now hired a CTO (Chief Technology Officer) to enhance its efficiency, he added.
The India Post will soon release a stamp to commemorate the 100th year of meeting between spiritual leader Sree Narayana Guru and Mahatma Gandhi, he said while inaugurates a new building of Varkala Sub Post Office here on Saturday.
