Miraculous escape for 3 sitting, 2 retd Madras HC judges, passengers, after attempt to derail Yercaud Express

Chennai, June 18 (UNI) Three sitting and two retired judges of Madras High Court were among
the hundreds of passengers, who had a providential escape after attempts were made to derail
the Yercaud Superfast Express train by placing a 10 ft long iron rod (said to be piece of railway
track) on the tracks.
The incident took place last night near Magudanchavadi Railway Station in Salem District when
the train was heading to Chennai from Erode.
The train was dragged to a distance of about 500 m after hitting the rod, before it was
halted safely by the alert driver after the brake lining of the engine got jammed.
Three Judges of the High Court, Justices N Senthil Kumar, GK Ilanthiraiyan and Krishnan
Ramasamy along with retired Judges K Kalyanasundaram and M Govindaraj, were returning
by the train after attending the funeral of senior counsel VK Muthusamy, father of Supreme
Court Judge, Justice MM Sundaresh.
The train suffered a delay of two hours after the engine was replaced.
Senior Government Railway Police and RPF personnel, along with forensic, finger print
experts rushed the spot and conducted investigations.
Sniffer dogs were also pressed into service.
The Railways have taken a serious view of the incident and has initiated a detailed probe
into it.
