CM, Priyank Kharge back India-Pak ceasefire

Bengaluru, May 10 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday welcomed the reported ceasefire announcement between India and Pakistan, while underlining the need for continued vigilance and uncompromising action against terrorism.
Addressing the media after chairing a high-level meeting of Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of Police, and senior district officials, Siddaramaiah said the ceasefire had been officially announced by the Foreign Secretary following mediation by United States President Donald Trump.
“If both nations commit to the ceasefire, I welcome and fully support it,” he said.
The Chief Minister said district authorities across the state had been directed to remain on high alert and be prepared for any eventuality. Mock drills had already been carried out in three districts and would be conducted in others wherever necessary.
“There is a perfect coordination between DCs, SPs, and Commissioners across districts,” he said, adding that food security must not be compromised.
Officials had been instructed to monitor the open market and ensure that price rise was curbed.
He also warned of strict action against the spread of misinformation and fake news, directing police and district officials to remain vigilant.
While reiterating his support for the ceasefire, Siddaramaiah asserted that India’s fight against terrorism would continue.
“Any act of terrorism will be considered seriously and treated as an act of war against the nation,” he asserted.
Echoing similar sentiments, Minister and senior Congress leader Priyank Kharge said the Congress Party has always stood by decisive national action and supports the Government of India in matters of national security.
"It appears that the Foreign Secretary has announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. From day one, the Congress Party has been very clear — we will strongly support any decisive action taken by the Government of India on behalf of the people of the nation," Kharge said.
However, he cautioned that ceasefires alone are not enough to stop terrorism. "Terrorism does not recognise ceasefires. We must remain vigilant and take stronger measures than we are currently taking to eliminate terrorism, both within India and beyond its borders," he added.
