Lucknow, Mar 19 (UNI) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are gearing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, looking for success under newly appointed captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer after assembling a formidable squad featuring a mix of experienced Indian and overseas players..
With less than a week before IPL 2025 commences, the team is banking heavily on the overseas contingent to play a crucial role in the franchise's pursuit of IPL glory.
Flamboyant left-hander Nicholas Pooran will once again be a key figure in the LSG batting unit. The explosive batsman was one of the standout performers last season, amassing 499 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 62.38 and a strike rate of 178.21, including three half-centuries. Since his IPL debut in 2019, Pooran has scored 1,769 runs in 76 games, with nine fifties to his name.
Strengthening the batting lineup, LSG secured the services of South Africa’s T20I captain Aiden Markram at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. With 4,405 runs in his T20 career, Markram brings experience and versatility to the squad.
The right-handed batsman has accumulated 995 runs in 44 IPL matches, including five fifties. Additionally, his ability to bowl right-arm off-spin makes him a valuable asset on Indian pitches. Known for his leadership skills, Markram is expected to provide support to skipper Rishabh Pant.
The middle-order has been further bolstered with the inclusion of South African power-hitter David Miller. Since making his IPL debut in 2012, Miller has been a match-winner for Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans.
With 2,924 runs in 130 IPL matches at an average of 36.55 and a strike rate of 139.24, he has registered one century and 13 half-centuries. Boasting over 11,000 T20 runs, Miller will be a crucial component in LSG’s campaign.
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh will don the LSG jersey for IPL 2025 after being acquired at the auction. The experienced cricketer has scored 4,425 runs and claimed 85 wickets in 188 T20 matches. His IPL record includes 666 runs and 37 wickets, making him a valuable addition to the squad. Marsh’s all-round capabilities and leadership qualities are expected to strengthen the team significantly.
LSG also secured the services of South African top-order batsman Matthew Breetzke, who made headlines with Durban’s Super Giants in SA20. The 26-year-old, who has represented South Africa in all three formats, gained prominence after scoring 150 off 148 balls on his ODI debut against New Zealand in Lahore during the Pakistan Tri-Nation Series in February 2025. He will now look to make an impact in IPL 2025.
West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph returns to LSG after the franchise exercised its Right to Match (RTM) option at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Having played just one game last season, Joseph will be eager to make his mark. He was originally brought in as a replacement for Mark Wood after his match-winning seven-wicket haul in the second innings guided West Indies to a historic Test victory against Australia at the Gabba.
