Mexico City, Apr 22 (UNI) Guadalajara sacked manager Gerardo Espinoza after the club failed to
reach the Liga MX post-season.
The announcement came less than a day after a 1-1 draw at Atlas left Guadalajara 11th in the 18-team Clausura tournament standings, outside the playoff places on goals scored.
"What happened in this tournament was a failure and we accept it as such," sporting director Javier Mier told a news conference on Monday.
"The decision we make regarding the new manager must be intelligent because it will be a turning point for what we're looking for. He will have to be someone who works well with young players, because we have the best youth academy in the country, but who also knows how to handle experienced players."
Espinoza led Guadalajara to two wins, three draws, and four defeats after taking charge of the club
in March.
Mier said he hoped to announce a new manager by May 21, when the club is due to begin training
for the Liga MX Apertura season.
