Mott hails Axar's shared leadership, says he counts on Faf and Rahul

Bengaluru, Apr 9 (UNI) In a tournament often defined by power-packed performances and dominant personalities, Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel is quietly crafting his own brand of leadership — one built on humility, inclusion, and shared wisdom.
Far from being the only voice in the dressing room, Axar actively seeks inputs from seasoned campaigners KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis, revealed assistant coach Matthew Mott on Wednesday.
"He doesn't come across as someone who wants to be the only voice," Mott told reporters on the eve of DC's clash with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. "He wants to leverage the experience around him and bring the best out of everyone."
With three wins in as many matches, Delhi's flying start to IPL 2025 has mirrored Axar's calm and collected presence. Mott believes that the captain’s balanced perspective on cricket and life has played a major role in keeping the squad grounded and spirited.
"He makes sure the players are enjoying themselves, staying involved, and smiling. Even when things don’t go our way, he keeps the message positive," said the Australian coach.
Turning attention to vice-captain Faf du Plessis, Mott confirmed that the veteran South African will be assessed by the physios ahead of the RCB game.
"He’s moving well and looks refreshed after the break. We’ll make a decision closer to match time," he said.
As the tournament gathers momentum, DC will be eager to maintain their perfect run — one that is being driven as much by strategy as by spirit.
