Bihar to host Table Tennis tournament for first time

Patna, June 6 (UNI) Bihar will be hosting the State Ranking Table Tennis tournament for the first time between June 19 and 22 at the indoor stadium of Patliputra Sports Complex, here.
Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA) Director General-cum-CEO Raveendra Sankaran said here on Friday that the tournament will be jointly organised under the banner of Sports Department, BSSA and Bihar Table Tennis Association.
Sankaran said that the tournaments wad bring organized at the state level to determine the top players in each state. The tournament plays an important role for players to qualify for national and international competitions.
The tournament will feature table tennis competitions for various age-groups of Under 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 for both boys and girls as well as men’s and women’s singles, Sankaran said and added that players from across the state can participate in the tournament.
The last date for registration will be June 12, while all the participants will have to report on June 18 at sports authority. Registration will be free for participants.
The Bihar government and BSSA will take care of the accommodation and food and other arrangements for the players, he informed.
The tournament is being organised under the guidance of internationally acclaimed Table Tennis player and Padma Shri awardee Sharad Kamal.
The successful and best performing players will be selected from all age-groups who will be coached to be developed as national and international players.
The Bihar government’s commitment and sustained efforts for all round development of sports and players have helped the state in achieving new heights both at national and international in the field of sports, Sankaran said adding that the government is committed to promote sports in which players of the state have the potential to win medals at national and international level.
