Delhi's Formidables retain Team title in 8th All India Shree Cement Bridge Championship

Kolkata May 5 (UNI) Displaying all round superiority champions Formidables comprising Rajeshwar Tewari, Sumit Mukherjee, Kaustabh Nandi, Sagnik Roy and Sayantan Kushari retained the Team title defeating Mavericks by 159 –97 International Match Points (IMPs) in the final round of the 8th All India Shree Cement Bridge championship here.
On the other hand Pinaki Prasad Khan & Satyabrata Mukherjee won the match point pairs event, which was concluded on Sunday night, organised by Corporate Bridge Association of India at Biswa Bangla Convension Centre in New Town.
Formidables consisting of players, all of whom have represented the country in international meets earlier justified their top billing and improved their performance as the 4-day tournament progressed.
They became richer by Rs 1.2 lakh as the top team.
The runners up Mavericks, represented by three foreign players – Heral Eide from Norway, Oren Toledano and Ami Zamir from Israel beside home grown Subodh Maskara, Aniruddha Bhattacharjee and veteran Keyzadd Anklesaria. Though they fought well, the Formidables were irresistible. The runners up bagged Rs 80,000.
Players of the Formidables will represent India in the forthcoming Bridge World Championship to be held in Denmark during August next.
Rampage finished third in the team event.
